About the event
On March 5, 1781, a small Revolutionary War skirmish occurred on the Regulator Battlefield, a decade after the Battle of Alamance and about two weeks before the Battle of Guilford Courthouse. In this encounter, troops from the Delaware Light Infantry, commanded by Captain Robert Kirkwood, faced a small group of British sentries from the army led by Lord Charles Cornwallis. This clash was a component of the broader Southern Campaign of the American Revolutionary War, during which both American and British forces sought strategic advantage in the area.
